About the event:
At Exacta, we had the privilege of volunteering at the Bristol Together Championships last month. This annual football tournament brings together primary schools from across Bristol. It celebrates the diverse communities that make up the city and its surrounding areas, fostering unity and friendship through football.
A day of unity and sport:
Volunteering at the Bristol Together Championships is an inspiring experience that showcases community and inclusivity. This annual sporting event brings together primary schools from around the city for a football tournament. The Championships help children build friendships across the perceived racial, class, geographical, and faith boundaries. By bringing together children from Bristol's diverse communities, the event celebrates cultural diversity and advocates for equality. Through shared stories and the universal language of football, the Bristol Together Championships foster unity, making a significant impact on the lives of young people and the broader community.
Our role as volunteers:
Our day began with the early morning setup, which was a team effort as we moved goals and placed cones to mark each pitch. Seven of us took on the role of referees, ensuring fair play and keeping the matches running smoothly, while others collected and recorded the scores of each game. As the day progressed, we witnessed the incredible sportsmanship and enthusiasm of the kids taking part, which was great to see. As the tournament ended, we helped pack everything away, reflecting on a day well spent raising community spirit and inclusivity.
Reflecting on our experience:
After celebrating diversity and discovering new friendships through football, we couldn’t have imagined a more extraordinary day. Events like this highlight the importance of breaking down socioeconomic divides and encouraging inclusivity and mutual understanding.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated and a heartfelt commendation to Community of Purpose who organised the event 👏
