This series will introduce you to a member of team Exacta every month, so you can meet the dedicated hardworking team that has made Exacta what it is today. Our sixth instalment of the series introduces you to Paul Maggs our Platform Business Liaison Manager. Paul started at Exacta in the spring of 2021, working in sales for the first time, which meant Paul had a lot to learn about technology and our existing customers.
How long have you been at Exacta and tell us about your job role?
I’ve worked for Exacta since April 2021. I used to be a sports coach at Bristol Grammar School for fifteen years and a tennis coach at David Lloyd Clubs. I came to the company because I used to teach Nick tennis, he knew I wanted to get out of teaching and he just text me saying I’ve got a job that’s come up. My job role is officially a salesman, but I prefer to see myself as more of an Account Manager. To manage the accounts that I’ve currently got and then to generate new customers to manage on a day-to-day basis.
What do you enjoy most about working at Exacta?
I enjoy working with a group of people that are very fun to work with. I’ve never worked in an office before in my life. I’ve always been self-employed, so it’s a whole different environment for me to come into. It took some getting used to, sitting at a desk in front of 2 screens!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I have three gorgeous children. Twin boys, George and Thomas, who are four, and have just started school. And Ollie, who is six. I enjoy spending as much time with them as I can. I also enjoy the occasional game of golf and I’m taking up a new hobby of padel tennis, the fastest growing sport in the UK, and it’s all over Europe - It’s brilliant!
What advice would you give to younger generations who aspire to work in the STEM industry/want the same job role as you?
To embrace it, to enjoy the challenge of a new and potentially different environment. Don’t be scared of new challenges. Coming from a different background myself, what I’m doing now is worlds apart from my previous job role, but you’ve got to chuck both feet in and just enjoy the challenge & embrace it!
What are 3 characteristics that best describe you as a person?
A father, positive & patient.
