This series will introduce you to a member of team Exacta every month, so you can meet the dedicated hardworking team that has made Exacta what it is today. Our tenth instalment of the series introduces you to Ben Adlam. Ben began working at Exacta in the summer of 2020. Ben is an Assembly Engineer; this means that he is responsible for picking stock and hand assembling systems.

How long have you been at Exacta and tell us about your job role?

I’ve been at Exacta for two and a half years now. I started as an Apprentice Build Engineer and have recently progressed into a full-time qualified Build Engineer role. My responsibilities include building servers and workstations, whilst making sure everything is built to a good quality and is up to Exacta’s high standards. I always try to be there for the team and if anyone needs help I’ll be there to assist them to the best of my ability and if I can’t help them, I’ll point them in the right direction.

What do you enjoy most about working at Exacta?

I’d never had a proper full-time job before starting at Exacta, so it’s nice to come into a place where everyone is so friendly and welcoming. In other jobs I’d had before, this wasn’t always the case, but when coming into work at Exacta you know you’re coming into a friendly environment where you can be yourself.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In my free time I like going to raves around Bristol, as well as spending time with my girlfriend and family. I also enjoy playing Rugby and going to the pub with my friends.

What advice would you give to younger generations who aspire to work in the STEM industry/want the same job role as you?

One piece of advice I’d probably give is that, if you want to enter the technology industry, is to try and do as much research as you can and gain as much extra knowledge as possible. Having that bit of extra understanding can really help you progress forward and show that you really know what you’re doing.

What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?

I would bring a speaker, a boat, and some chocolate brownies!

What are 3 characteristics that best describe you as a person?

Ambitious, irritating, and funny!
