The representation of women in the technology industry still has a long way to go until females are no longer considered the minority in tech. According to new statistics, as of 2022 women currently hold only 26.7% of tech related jobs, with the total number of women in tech-related positions decreasing by 2.1% from 2020 to 2021. Statistics like this not only make us question how we can encourage more women to enter the tech industry, but also what needs to be done to attract more women into more senior positions, as both workforce and leadership positions have an under representation of females. Here at Exacta Technologies, we believe that the technology industry is great to work in, with many exciting opportunities. Over the last few years, the female team at Exacta has doubled and we are committed to welcoming more women into our expanding team.
What is International Women's Day?
Celebrated on March 8th every year, International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the cultural, political, social, and economic achievements of women. International Women’s Day also draws attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, as well as violence and abuse against women. The theme for 2023 is #EmbraceEquity, which calls for people to embrace gender equity, meaning a fair and equal world where everyone feels they are being included and that they belong. According to the International Women’s Day website, each one of us can embrace and actively support equity within our own sphere of influence. International Women’s Day has existed in different forms across the globe for more than 100 years. The day developed from a variety of various labour and social justice movements to eventually become recognised as an annual event by the United Nations (UN) in 1975.
Women at Exacta
Gender equality is extremely important to us at Exacta Technologies. As we grow and our team expands, we would like the number of women in our workforce to grow alongside us. We are committed to working towards gender parity within our team, with many women working in different roles and managing various departments within the company. Some of the biggest barriers women face in the tech industry involve wage inequality compared to male colleagues, workplace gender bias, as well as a shortage of female role models, according to a survey by global technology association ISACA. Here at Exacta, we are dedicated to ensuring the women in our team do not face these issues and are continuously hiring more women into a range of different roles. As well as this, we are continually creating a positive environment where our team have access to the opportunities they need to thrive.
